Have you seen this year’s National Blood Week campaign? We’re helping promote it by removing the As, Os and Bs from our logo.
In the face of a 40% reduction in new blood donor volunteers in 2014 compared to a decade earlier, it is vital to attract an additional 204,000 new volunteers in 2015 for Wales and England alone.
The #MissingType campaign highlights the importance of every type of blood group to maintain the nation’s blood stocks at a safe level.
Promoting blood donation is one of our Lions Clubs International Centenary pledges ahead of our 100 year anniversary in 2017. Of course, many members are already registered as regular blood donors and it is really easy to find out if you’re eligible to donate, register or book an appointment. Just visit: http://www.blood.co.uk
In Lions, we believe that everyone deserves a healthy life, and helping those who do not enjoy the highest standard of health is the purpose of many projects we undertake.
For example, every year 30,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer in the UK. The Lions International Blood Research Appeal, LIBRA, is the only charity in the world that solely raises funds for King’s College Hospital’s Haematology Department in London.
