District 105BS Young Ambassador

This year, with Wrexham not putting a candidate forward, we have another Club winning through with their candidate.Katie Farley, in a very close run competition, won the District 105BS Young Ambassador final for Stone Lions Club.

There were four candidates – this time all young ladies –
Beth Roberts (Wilmslow), Carys Allen (Telford), Catherine Jones (Vale of Llangollen) and Katie Farley (Stone). As ever, any of the four were worthy of representing the District at Multi District level making it difficult for the judges to select from four winners to go through to Dudley in February.

Each candidate is marked on four areas; three minute presentation, leadership qualities, work in the community and intended spend of a £500 bursary should they win.

Katie is 17 and is joint Head Girl of her local High School.
She is involved in a wide variety of community volunteer work. She has been helping teach young children to swim for the last five years, now having her own class. Katie loves working with young children and has had placements at a local Middle school, at present is helping at a First school. She is a trained counsellor and buddy helping to build the confidence of young people.

Katie is keen on fundraising and has organised events for charities such as Children in Need, Breast Cancer etc. She was assistant Managing Director for the Young Enterprise programme – their company made environmentally friendly products called “Knottlebags” and won their way to the National Finals held at the Savoy Hotel in London.

Her achievements include Duke of Edinburgh bronze, silver and gold awards; Sports Leader level 1 and 2 and a Rotary Young Leader award.

The Multi-District Final will be held at the Village Hotel, Dudley the weekend 17th– 19th February,

Thanks are due to the judges, Angela Fury (Chair), Jill Hood and Richard Homer for their valuable support and time.

Thanks also to the Horse & Jockey for allowing us to again hold the event there; for serving tea, coffee, meals etc and for being so welcoming.

The event was again very well supported; thanks to all who
attended. It was great to have different Clubs involved this year!

Certificates were presented to each candidate by District
Governor Beryl along with token gifts to the three judges.
